WHAT'S NEW!
The 2009
Raggedy Ann Festival was a little different from years past since the city
of Arcola, IL decided sponsoring it would be too much cost and effort on
their part. So, with the wonderful organizing and "get 'er done" effort of
the long time Arcola Raggedy Ann collector, Susie Patridge, the
RAGGEDY FRIENDSHIP
GATHERING was born.
Events were well attended and occurred without a hitch and, collectors and
dealers came from many states and also included a large contingent from
Japan.
The Raggedy Ann theme was to gather together for a time
of socializing, refreshments, meeting new friends, buying, selling, trading and,
just plain hangin' out together!
Here is a little of the schedule of what we did:
FRIDAY (June 12,
2009)
10:00 AM *** CEMETERY TREK ***
An informative "walkabout" led
by Susie Patridge, through the Arcola cemetery. We got a little exercise,
stretched our legs and many collectors learned where some of the Gruelle family members had been laid to rest.
1:00 PM ***The
ARCOLA FLOWER PATCH
***
A local bed and breakfast in Arcola,
owned by the Harshbarger Family, had a wonderful FRIENDSHIP ENGLISH HIGH TEA.
Seating sold out and were are told everyone enjoyed it.

7:00 PM *** FRIDAY
NIGHT DINNER***
Susie Patridge organized a small gathering of a few Raggedy Friends at the
Tuscany Restaurant in Tuscola (just North of Arcola).
What a surprise when almost 100 collectors, family and friends showed up. We
had a great time and, the restaurant did an excellent job of packing us in
and serving us a full buffet. Great job Susie!

SATURDAY (6/13/09)
9:00 AM
*** RAGGEDY FRIENDSHIP GATHERING ***
Several collector/dealers brought in tons of Raggedy Ann dolls, limited
edition and miscellaneous Raggedy Ann items to sell at the the United Methodist Church
in Arcola. At 9:00 AM the
doors were opened to a flood of collectors wanting to get their
favorite. There were several Volland made dolls from the 1920's, an
Exposition doll made in 1930's, Georgene Novelty dolls made from the
1930's - 40's and Knickerbockers made in the 1960's - 70's and, lots of
items made for the Japan Raggedy Ann Market. If you could not find it
there, perhaps you did not need it!

RAGGEDY FRIENDSHIP
SOCIAL
From about 3 - 5 PM. we
just enjoyed each other, renewing ole' acquaintances and had
refreshments served by our own favorite Beloved Belindy character, Carol
Hamm. What a great job she did helping display the love of the
Raggedy Ann characters for each other.

ARCOLA DIAMOND HOUSE B & B ***
located next door to the Flower Patch B&B, also owned by the Harshbarger
Family, had a
FRIENDSHIP SIX-COURSE DINNER. We were told it had sold out and everyone
had a wonderful time.
Well, that is a lot of What's New.
All in all, everyone we talked to had a great time and is looking
forward to next year. We certainly enjoyed meeting our new friends from
Japan and other parts of the U.S. Next years Raggedy Ann
Gathering is already set for June, 2010. So, mark your calendar.
