SHOWS AND FESTIVALS

Annual Raggedy Ann and Andy Festival in Arcola, Illinois

Where: Arcola, IL
When: June (usually 1st or 2nd weekend of each year).
Questions or information: Arcola Chamber of Commerce (800) 336 - 5456
or, email at: arcolachamber@consolidated.net

Bonnie and I just returned from the festival and must report we had a wonderful time. In addition to meeting our Raggedy Friends we met many new ones. Although we were not able to attend each festival event due to our sale tables being in the Vendor's Tent, we heard from several other people that the different  festival events were well attended. Everywhere we looked we saw children, many dressed in Raggedy Ann outfits. Raggedy fans came from as far away as JAPAN to look for their favorite collectible.

Our sales were very good. We took many older items from our private collection. As examples, we sold a 48" Georgene Raggedy Andy in near mint condition, 1965 Beloved Belindy, a Raggedy Ann Camper (1970s) Bus in the box, several small Georgene dolls (pre-1960) and many older items. Next year we will bring more from our collection.

At the end of the festival (Sunday night) several of us "ole' timers" got together for a celebration and dinner. Bonnie and I always enjoy the good friends and good food.

Next year, if our health holds up we will try to be back with more. We hope to see you there too.

Raggedy's & Teddy's Conventions

We had a great time putting on our Raggedy's and Teddy's Conventions. They were fun while they lasted. But, as usual, most things come to an end and so have our Raggedy's and Teddy's Conventions. The expense and planning are just too much for this "ole Geezer"!

We have a few of the show souvenirs available that we repurchased from collections over the years, adding them back into our inventory:

What people have said about the Johnny Gruelle Camper Bus:
Hi Larry, I just wanted to tell you I received the Camper. It is more wonderful than I could have imagined. What a great Raggedy Collectible you created. So proud to have it in my collection. I put it in a very prominent spot so that all can appreciate it. The box is as wonderful as the camper. I left you Positive Feedback. I would greatly appreciate it if you would do the same for me. Many, many thanks. Chris

Comment about the wind chime from a customer:
Larry, the wind chime is just great. We have a back porch the catches those evening winds and I love to hear the chimes as I fall to sleep. You and Bonnie did a wonderful job on the conventions. Thanks for the many wonderful times we had at the shows. Lisa M./Tampa, FL

We would like to remind everyone that our shows sponsored a charity each year and we think the following group deserves special recognition.

"The Smile Train". The Smile Train offers free operations to young children born with cleft lip and palate. This year we raised $500 for this worthy cause. It is worth noting here that 100% of the donations go toward the operations and not to expenses of the organization. Read more on their web site The Smile Train .

If you want to make a tax deductible donation, use The Smile Train link above and tell them you saw it on the Raggedy's & Teddy's web site (www.Raggedyann.cc).

One final note......with sadness we announce that we will not be planning for any future Raggedy's and Teddy's Conventions. While some parts of our Convention were successful overall, the stress, cost, attendance and, my health just caused us to re-think our situation.

A special THANK YOU to all of the volunteers that helped us with tables, unloading, decorations, admissions, dealer preparation, advertising, etc. and the many other things that go into putting on a good show. It was great working with each of you and the conventions successful parts would not have been the same without your valuable participation and help.

Raggedy Wishes.......
